Paxico and the Flint Hills
a glimpse of the Flint Hills in Spring 2006

The First of April and a short trip to
the Flint Hills in and around Paxico, Kansas was warm, but the Flint Hills still
lingered on
with that coat of Winter as the lack of moisture seemed to prolong the renewal
of the landscape. Paxico was busy as usual as this is a hot spot
just north of Interstate 70 for those who love antiques and lots of retro 50's
memorabilia.
Shelby patiently
awaited in the Jeep while we stopped off at the
The Electric Cat Cafe
to listen to
Max Yoho
give a
interesting presentation about bootlegging in southeast Kansas and read some
excerpts from his novel
The Moon Butter
Route.
I've mentioned
this before, that Spring in the Kansas Flint Hills is a good view of why this
area is primarily
cattle grazing in the Summer, as it soon becomes apparent that beneath these
blue stem grasses that adorn the hill sides there
are rocky slopes and lots of stones.
This was Shelby's first trip to the
Flint HIlls and she didn't waste anytime exploring the slopes.

Garage door peek for Shelby - this
is at home where she doesn't miss the opportunity to keep an eye on that Jeep
in
the driveway that just may be headed for the Flint Hills.
