Sunflowers in the Flint
Hills
(Click on photo for larger view)
Balmy and breezy on Sunday afternoon,
September 5, 1999 finds the wild sunflowers in full bloom,
reminding us that Summer is coming to end and the prelude of Fall will be upon us.
Butterflies are still abundant and a Collored
Lizard (second photo from left) was caught taking a sun
bath, which we almost missed while traveling an unmaintained back roadway in Wabaunsee
County.
Other flowers adorn old rock fences in
Southern Wabaunsee County. Photo on right is
typical of ponds and small lakes in the Flint Hills.
Hill sides are not the luster of green they
were this past Spring,
as the Summer has been very hot and dry for
the most part.
